As well as the two weekly papers, the Express and the Observer, Slough did for a time also have a daily newspaper. The Evening Mail was published five times a week between 1969 and 1982. The first edition was printed on May 19th 1969, and was in the newsagents at 1.40pm - 5 minutes ahead of the estimated launch time. The final edition appeared on May 14th 1982. During its' lifetime, the Evening Mail won 3 newspaper sales awards, 8 advertising trophies, 4 photographic prizes and 5 national design awards.
Slough has also, since 1979, had a talking newspaper. It was set up by Maurice Pocock, Percy Whitford and Alan Griffiths, and is run entirely by volunteers. The service is offered free to the blind - the best articles from the Slough Express and Slough Observer are recorded onto tape and distributed to subscribers.
