In olden times it had a traditional central point, the village green, where villagers grazed their cows until the end of the 19th century. For most of the 20th century it served as a football field and cricket pitch.

Today Cippenham Green is the only ancient village green left within Slough's boundaries and, in spite of the surrounding residential housing, the pond provides a great haven for wildlife.
