Cippenham has developed in many ways, from a village with a pond and farmland to a suburb of Slough dominated by housing developments, with industrial growth along the Bath Road. The expansion relates to the importance of the Slough Trading Estate, a major employer in the early days with workers from all over the country, who needed homes. In 1991 the population count was 9,623 compared to 433 people in 1881. Some parts of Cippenham have been safeguarded as open spaces. Windsor Meadows and Harvest Meadows are separated by a green wedge north of the sewage works.

Cippenham nowadays has boundaries as follows; north - A4 Bath Road; west - Huntercombe Spur to M4; south - stretching across the fields to the edges of Dorney; and east - wandering north of Eton Wick and south of the sewerage works. Turning back north across the M4 and through the eastern part of Windsor Meadows and Westgate School field to the A4.
