The whole landscape has changed so much since medieval times:
"To the north flows a branch of the Chalvey Ditch which….was probably a wide stream in medieval times, there being historical records showing that it was possible to travel by barge from Staines to Cippenham." (C. Moat Article)
Again Richard Earl of Cornwall seems likely to have been involved in the creation of a 300 acre Deer Park in the thirteenth century. Wood Lane now runs through it, but centuries ago the area would have been the preserve of royalty and leading noblemen enjoying the hunt and thrill of the chase, and it would have provided fresh meat during the harsh winter months. Edward III is said to have utilised part of the park as a stud farm.
