Granada Cinema, 1937
Granada Cinema, 1937
Slough's first cinema opened on the 1st August 1910, in a hall at the back of the Crown Hotel on Windsor Road. The cinema was owned by Slough Picture Hall Company, whose managing director Henry George Wilson also owned the hotel.

It was one of the first cinemas in the South East, and soon became so popular that the audience outgrew the hall and larger premises at the Public Hall had to be hired.

In 1921, Mr Wilson also opened the Palace Cinema on the High Street, with his newly formed Slough Picture Theatre Company Ltd. The opening night (Thursday 1st September) was attended by Major-General C W Carteret Carey, a representative of HRH Princess Alice of Athlone and all proceeds went to the Princess Alice Home for Disabled Soldiers and Sailors. The Palace was renamed the Century Cinema in 1949, before being closed and knocked down in 1957. Auditorium of the Palace Cinema, Slough, about 1936-1937

Other notable cinemas in Slough included the 'Adelphi Cinema' in Bath Road, opened in 1930. It contained a large ballroom as well as a cinema. The building still exists and is used as a bingo club. Also, the 'Granada Cinema' in Windsor Road, which was opened in March 1938 by actor Leslie Howard and boasted a Wurlitzer organ. It was demolished in 1987
