Full Description: This coat of arms was used by the Borough of Slough from its chartership in 1938 to when the area was transferred from Buckinghamshire to Berkshire in 1974. The arms include many symbols of Slough and its history. The blue section on the shield has two golden brick hammers to represent the brickmaking industry and the central symbol represents Uranus which was discovered by Slough resident, William Herschel. The swan represents Buckinghamshire and the flower in its beak is a Mrs Sinkins Pink, a variety of flower which was first grown in Slough. The motto translates as "by confidence and strength". On the left of the shield is Mercury, the God of Commerce, and on the right of the shield is Vulcan, the God of Industry. The Gods represent trade and industry in the borough.
