Full Description: The Staines branch of the Great Western Railway was opened between 1884 and 1885. It spanned from West Drayton & Yiewsley to Staines. The line was a local concern authorized by an Act of 7th July 1873 but the plan needed revival by the GWR before the extensions to Colnbrook and Staines were opened.
The line was single and worked by electric train staff, auto-trains and then diesel railcars with up to 17 trains each way daily. The single platform building at Staines was originally a private dwelling. During World War II a connection was installed at Staines with Southern Railway. The Beeching Report of 1963 proposed the closing of the line and this was implemented in 1965. Colnbrook Station was located on the London Road about half a mile to the east of Colnbrook village. |
