Full Description: The reservoir covers about 192 acres and when full holds 38 million cubic metres of water. There is a pumping station on the Thames at Datchet capable of pumping about 2,275 thousand cubic metres a day from the river Thames. The reservoir was opened to the public in the spring of 1976.
The 1977-78 report stated that 9,355 permits for fly fishing for trout had been sold and 18,436 trout caught. Fishing was allowed from the bank and also from boats. In addition a dinghy sailing club was allowed to use the water. At the time the water authority, Thames Water, also had plans to further develop the recreational use of the reservoir with a Clubhouse open to the general public, visitor sailing using the authorities' own boats, horse riding around the base of the reservoir and squash courts. These proposals were eventually abandoned for financial reasons. |
