Full Description: Henrietta Ward lived in Upton Park between 1852 and 1859. Whilst in Slough she painted "The Young May Queen". This painting depicts the May celebrations around St. Mary's Church, Langley Marish. In the background of the painting can be seen the Red Lion Inn. The pamphlet tells that story of the painting, together with her time in Slough and her life more generally. Whilst in Slough she was visited many times by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The pamphlet shows her reaction to the royal visits and her arrival at Upton Park. She also regualarly attended St. Laurence's Church, Upton, and it is there that Ward, together with her artist husband, Edward Ward, are buried. An illustrated version of this pamphlet is available for loan from Slough Libraries and some of those illustrations can also be found on Slough History Online.
