Brief Description: Jamia Masjid & Islam Centre, shown mostly constructed but with some building works going on in front area, 2000
Subject Date: August 2000
Creator: L H Harris
Owner: Slough Library
Contributor: Slough Library

Full Description: In the 1980s, the Marystrong Church in Stoke Poges Lane, formerly used by the Welsh Congregational Church, was purchased by the Muslim community and converted into a mosque. This was quickly outgrown, however, so the old building was pulled down and a purpose-built mosque was constructed on the site. While it was being built, worship took place in other nearby buildings. The new building was the Jamia Masjid Islamic Centre. Construction began in 1999 and although it has been in use since 2000, the official opening was in 2001. Guests included Yousuf Islam, formerly pop singer Cat Stevens. It is currently being redesigned.
