My first job.

by Maurice Coffey

I left school in Shepherds Bush in 1957 when we moved to the Britwell Estate. It was still in the process of being built and was like a huge building site. Everything was brand new.

I started work at the GPO in the high street as a young postman or 'telegram boy' riding the iconic red BSA Bantam motorcycles. What a fantastic job that was.

The cinemas we used to frequent were the Adelphi, Granada, Essoldo and Ambassador. I well remember too the Sorrento coffee bar at an entrance to Slough College.

The buses to the Britwell were the 400, later 484, and the Thames Valley Numbers 64 and 70.
